Day Tour from Souda Port: Aptera – Kournas Lake – Rethymno City

Join us for a beautiful day exploring the natural and historic treasures of Crete!

Your tour begins at 09:00 AM as you disembark your cruise ship at Souda Port. We set off towards our first stop, the ancient city of Aptera, arriving around 09:30 AM.

Perched on a hilltop with stunning views of Souda Bay and the White Mountains, Aptera was once one of the most powerful city-states in western Crete. You’ll have 20 minutes to explore the impressive ruins, including parts of ancient city walls, Roman cisterns, and a small theater, and to enjoy a photo stop capturing the breathtaking landscape.

At 09:50 AM, we continue our journey to the beautiful Kournas Lake, the only freshwater lake on the island. We arrive around 10:30 AM, where you’ll have time until 12:00 PM to relax and enjoy breakfast by the serene lakeside. Take a walk along the shore, rent a pedal boat if you wish, or simply soak in the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains.

After a refreshing break, we depart for Rethymno City, arriving around 12:30 PM. Here, you'll have free time until 2:45 PM to explore this charming coastal town at your own pace. Discover the well-preserved Old Town, a blend of Venetian and Ottoman architecture with colorful alleys, historic fountains, picturesque squares, and a vibrant waterfront. Visit the impressive Fortezza Fortress, browse local boutiques for handmade goods, or relax at one of the many cafes by the harbor.

Finally, we depart Rethymno and head back to Souda Port, with an expected arrival around 4:00 PM, ensuring you are back in time for your cruise departure.
